There are only two notes known on this town so how will you ever get better than this, as only 1,588 sheets were ever printed. This is the best you can ever get from New Mexico and it's worth whatever it costs. Roman obtained this in 1974 from the grandson of Ida Hammond, Assistant Cashier. It was loaned to him for the display for the First National Bank's 100 year celebration. After being displayed in 1970, Hammond allowed him to keep the note as there were several other banks in the state that wanted the display also, as well as the New Mexico Banker's Association for their convention. It was after these events were completed that Hammond called Roman and said he wanted him to have ownership of the note for his collection. Hammond and two other ladies of the period were the only three women who Roman was able to identify as signers of New Mexico Nationals. Ida Hammond was the only one to grace a Territorial with her signature. The other two women, on Third Charter state notes, were Ruth Burns on the First of Nara Visa note and Ruth Lathrop on the First of Hagerman notes. It was many years later that Roman discovered that H.B. Sammons of Farmington was, in fact, the only lady with presidential status on New Mexico Nationals.
