#1 Ontonagon Red Seal
National Bank Notes > Michigan
Ontonagon, First NB, M6820
Fr. 639 $20 1902RS #1
Grade:
Ch. AU
This bank was chartered in 1903 and the first notes issued were Red Seals. This is the only #1 on this bank and it's truly beautiful. In the fall of 2010 we sold the only other known Red Seal on this bank at $16,100, and while it's a Red Seal in XF, it's not a #1. This could easily set the high water mark for notes in this auction. There are four large notes reported on the bank of only 1,263 Red Seal sheets printed. This note last sold in the Grinnell sale, Lot 1664. The Dr. Wallace Lee Collection.
