Miles City is located in Custer County and the first national bank was chartered in July 1882, six years after the city was founded. Nelson Miles was the commander of Fort Keogh but finding that alcohol caused more problems than the Indians he kicked the sutlers out. The moved two miles west and soon it was called Miles City. Nelson Miles' nephew, George, introduced sheep to the area. Livestock speculation brought cattle to the open ranges in the last 1880s and then the railroad arrived. This note has excellent pen signatures of the vice president and assistant cashier. The bottom cut is barely into the design and the paper quality is excellent. This is the only Territorial on the charter.
