This might surprise you, but the majority of the same block large size serial #99999999 and #100000000 were split up many years ago. Martin Gengerke's auction and fixed price list history of these high serial numbers, for all denominations and all series from the first ones printed in the 1899 Series to the last ones printed for the 1923 Series, you'll see that 21 pairs of serial #99999999/100000000 from the same block have been, at some point in time, sold either individually or as pairs; the majority were sold as individual notes. Some have been split up forever and some have been re-united. We believe that only the following nine matched block pairs are in private hands together: Fr. 36 $1 1918 LT A-A, Fr. 232 $1 1899 SC M-M, R-R, Fr. 233 $1 1899 SC B-A (offered here), Fr. 236 $1 1899 SC V-A, Fr. 237 $1 1923 SC Z-B and N-D and finally Fr. 871a $5 FRN G-A. So we're convinced that only four intact same block $1 1899 Silver Certificate pairs with serial #99999999 and #10000000 are in collections. How does one fairly price this pair? We know of only one other pair currently for sale from Jhon Cybuski. He is offering the $1 1899 Silver Certificate pair #V99999999A/#V100000000A pair at $72,500 on his website. Bidders will determine the final value of this pair, but we can assure you that you won't get another opportunity like this for quite some time.
