Hastings-Upon-Hudson, First NB, 8586
Fr. 600 $5 1902ND
Grade:
Fine
This is cut close at the top, has decent signatures and even circulation for the grade. This could be more reasonable with two other chances to acquire higher grades. No acquisition data recorded. From the Frank Levitan Collection. During the American Revolution, what is now Hastings lay between the lines of the warring forces and was declared neutral territory. In reality, the area became a no-man's land and was raided repeatedly by both sides. The name Hastings appears as early as 1839 since the residents thought the village resembled Hastings, England. It was Hastings-upon-Hudson when the post office opened in 1849 and when the village was incorporated in 1879. The "upon" became "on" in 1935.
