Beautiful Montana Territorials are few and far between with a name and history of Fort Benton, which is called the 'Birthplace of Montana'. A study of its history reveals connections to the earliest and most important people of the Old West. The bank was chartered on June 15, 1880 as Fort Benton and on April 15, 1891 changed its title to Northwestern National Bank of Great Falls. This is one of only two known examples of this rare, early survivor dated June 15, 1880. There were 5,229 sheets of Territorials recorded and six notes with the second title. Signed by C.E. Conrad, Vice President and Joseph A. Baker, Cashier. This rare and elusive Montana Territorial is a lovely reminder of the gold rush and mining in Montana before the West was won. This note is a beauty.
