"The wrong stock error shares the elite stratum with the rarest of paper money mistakes. The wrong stock error carries the first and second printing of one type of currency and the overprint of another. These ultra-rarities occurred during periods when the BEP was producing more than one class of currency simultaneously; specifically from the mid-1950s through the early 1960s. There are three separate varieties documented... [One] subset, of which two specimens exist, is the era of 1950 $5 FRN with the blue overprint of the series of 1953 SC. The final piece is an era of 1950 $5 FRN demonstrating a red overprint from the series of 1953-B United States note (USN)." [From United States Paper Money Errors, Third Edition, Frederick J. Bart; reproduced with permission]. This lot contains the unique Legal Tender overprint from the series of 1953-B with the signatures of Smith and Dillon applied to a $5 Federal Reserve host note. The second, and equally spectacular item is Silver Certificate overprint from the series of 1953 with the signatures of Priest and Humphrey applied to a $5 Federal Reserve host note. In short, these are issued notes which simply can not exist! There is neither a series of 1953 or 1953-B FRN of any denomination. Unquestionably far more important than any double denomination.
