Grade:
PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55 PPQ
The prize of any collection. This Spread Eagle is one of only 22 examples known of this variety. Check out this pedigree starting with Lot 37 of the Grinnell sale where William Donlon acquired it, choosing to use it as the cover illustration of his book on Large Size US Currency. In 1971 it was sold as Lot 673 of the Donlon Collection and there it has resided since. That's 45 years to get your chance to own this note. This is as important and beautiful a piece of US currency as ever was printed and to think the powers in charge did such a beautiful job. There are three UNC notes listed in Track & Price. This note is one of two AUs and it's only the second graded PPQ or EPQ. Three of the margins are Gem while the left side is not Gem. All of the top quality Spread Eagle notes reported are from this series. What more is there?
