The Jewel of LaSalle County

National Bank Notes > Illinois

Streator, NB, 2681
Fr. 460 $100 1875
Grade: VF/XF
The jewel of LaSalle County, located in central Illinois, is this $100 First Charter that was 1 of only 115 notes, each of $50s and $100s. This amazing note is dated May 5, 1882, immediately before the end of the First Charter Period. There are only 55 $100s from the 1875 Series known from the entire country, and only 2 are from Illinois, the other from Lincoln is a #1. This note first appeared on June 16, 1945 at the Grinnell sale, held by Blarney Bluestone, where it was Lot 1192 and it sold for $210. It resurfaced 39 years later at Stack's March 20, 1984 sale, Lot 186, when purchased by the consignor for $3,300. The new owner will be only the third in nearly 100 years. The note has some folds but excellent color and centering, along with great margins both front and back. The signing officials were Ralph Plumb, President and G.W. Lukins (?), Cashier. Here is the opportunity to obtain a wonderful piece of American and Illinois banking history. Enjoy the journey. The Illinois Type Set.
