Fr. 1935-D $2 1976 Cleveland D-A Doubled Printing
Grade:
Gem CU
This is the most important modern era error as a type. The clearly enormous double printing of each part of the third printing is very vivid. This example was Lot 234 of the John Whitney Walters sale in 2004 where it was graded Gem CU and realized $9,200. The note is as lovely now as it was then but a conservative grader may chose to call it a '64' rather than a '65'; either way it's a peach. Also realize that the serial number ends in '44' on top and '40' on the bottom of the two and the district number also appears as '44'.
