#1 Davenport National Bank

Davenport, NB, 848
Fr. 397 $5 Original #1
Grade:
VF/XF
This bank was chartered on March 1, 1865 when it consolidated with the Union Savings Bank . George L. Davenport was president and B.B. Woodward was cashier from 1865 to 1875. Not only is this a #1 note but the Federal number is red, not the earlier blue. There are three others from Iowa including the Red Oak Black Charter, and only 43 known from the nation. A true rarity as no other First Charters and only one Brown Back have survived.
