Fr. 94 $10 1862 Partial Face Printing Error
Grade:
PCGS Fine 15 Apparent
Normal back printing; face completely devoid except for the green under-print consisting of the numeral '10' counters, guilloche in lower central part of the paper and the phrase 'patented 30 June 1857', a time which predates Federal currency! The entire black printing, including the vignette of Art as an allegory, the central eagle, the portrait of slain President Lincoln, the engraved signatures and borders are missing. Likewise, the note lacks the red serial number and seal. Only one similar missing printing exists (on a $500 1882 Gold Certificate) and that was advertised at $250,000 nearly 20 years ago. PCGS describes this an 'Incomplete Partial Face Printing' and comments edge damage which is of minimal consequence. Of epic historic proportions and worthy of the most advanced collection due to the mind-boggling nature of this early error.
