This was the first of Niles' three national banks. It was chartered in 1871 and liquidated in 1901. The bank issued $1 to $20 First Charter Originals and 1875 Series, as well as $5, $10 and $20 Brown Backs. This note is an Original Series with charter issued in the 1873-1874 era. The census shows eight notes reported on this Berrien County bank. Signed by R.W. Laudon, President and Thomas L. Stevens, Cashier. The Lazy Deuce serial #2 in XF/AU sold at $36,800 in 2007. This $5 is well centered, problem free and attractive.
