Fr. 1651 $5 1934-A E-A Separated Piece
Grade:
VF
This note came from an old-timer, a hunter-trapper in northern Wisconsin who got the note new from a bank in the 1960s and immediately noticed "a piece fell off". Even though the teller offered to replace it with a perfect note, the fellow decided to keep the note, which he carried in his pocket and wallet, winning many barroom bets that he had a US note worth $4.75. We sold a much more dramatic example of this R-9 error in our PCDA sale in March of 2017 for more than $10,500. We don't expect this piece to bring that lofty amount, but this is a $5 Silver, not a modern $1 FRN. Another note from this sheet was sold by a West Coast dealer for a five-figure sum several years ago. This note has not been to either service, but we expect them to grade it.
