Fr. 656 $20 1902ND
Grade: AU
WINNEBAGO is a township in Faribault County, settled in June 1855, organized in October 1858, was then named Winnebago City. It was named for the Winnebago Indians, whose reservation during the years 1855 to 1863 was in the adjoining Blue Earth County. It was named "City" for discrimination from the Winnebago Agency near Mankato, but this part of the name was discontinued in 1905. The post office was first called Winnebago City, 1857-1905, when it was changed to the present name. The village had a station of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad. It is not the home of Winnebago campers. This gorgeous example is likely the best of the 12 large notes reported on this charter. Exceptional pen signatures by the VP and Cashier. It has been over five years since any have appeared.
