Egyptian Currency Note Royal Government of Egypt
169s 5 Piastres L. 1940
Grade:
WBG Gem UNC 65 TOP
First Queen Nefertiti type; color trial in purple with light brown underprint/darker brown with light brown underprint on back, without serial number. Extremely rare; initial denomination of the only series with the Egyptian Royal Government heading on face, obliterated watermark. King Farouk abdicated in 1952 and his young son Ahmed Fuad II tried to take power. However, the military regime did not let this happen and the title was therefore changed to Egyptian State, seen with the following series. We offer a transition 10 Piastres with this later heading several lots later. Signature of Abdul Gueleel El Emery on back. Choice original. We are pleased to offer nine different examples of early Egyptian Currency Notes, two 5 Piastres and seven 10 Piastres, none of which are listed in the Egyptian reference by Hanafy and Mehilba. WBG terms this "Gem UNC 65 TOP". An incredible unprecedented public offering, starting with this lot.
