Lot #45414 - CC-64 $3 May 20, 1777

Continental Currency

CC-64 $3 May 20, 1777
Grade: PCGS VF 25     PCGS
Commonly referred to as the first United States issue due to its placement in the top border cut. Vignette of an eagle fighting with a heron. Latin motto is EXITUS IN DUBIO EST, which Newman translates as "The outcome is in doubt." This May 1777 issue is second in scarcity only to the fabled Yorktown series of April 1778. Some of the lower denominations from this series, this one included in that group, are a lot scarcer than the high denominations from this issue. A reasonably priced example of a much better note.
