SB 1911? .50 Mark 12.3.1948?
A plausible argument can be made that these notes belong in the Standard Catalog. This series was issued under the auspices of the Saar military government for use in a variety of areas. While WW II Remembered states that little is known, at this time Saar was in the process of changing hands between Germany and France; while the issuing authority is worded in French, the monetary unit as well as areas of use for these pieces appear to be in Germany. Denominated in Mark. On back, date stamping in blue and small line "I. N. J. 13-47-100 000 977" at bottom. Stamped for use in the town of Grube Velsen. Series E; five digit serial number. Couple of spots at right. Outstanding condition. We are pleased to offer examples from two separate series with one denominated in Mark and the other in Saarmark. Together, these lots present a unique research opportunity.
