The opportunity to offer a CU Alaska is a rarity as Track & Price only shows three other than this beauty from the $10 T2 State collection Dean built in the 60's. I sold #A001688 for $66k in 2000 and the last offered was a PMG VF 25 that realized $18k in 2025. I later resold #A001688 in 2004 for $41,400. Beautiful Alaska's rarely appear and it is crazy but an uncut pair of Fairbanks just sold for $55,200. Signatures of Elwood McClain and John Reck.

Records indicate twelve surviving notes from this Yavapai County location. There are five BB Territorials and four DB Territorials and six of those nine are $5's. As best I can tell this came from the Monte Sherwin State Collection and very few times have these appeared. A similar quality example appeared in 2018 at HA bringing $19,200 and it has flaws as well. Better signatures would make it better but they are not quite there. PMG notes repaired, corner reattached.

I do not make holders but I do know what beauty is in Gold Bank Notes because I like to say I have handled "them all", or maybe just the best ones. Fr. 1152 $20 1870 GBN
San Francisco, First National Gold Bank, 1741
This was acquired from William Anton with the $5 and $10 listed here as well. If I chose a number grade, 30 seems to fit adequately. I see a pinhole and a tiny closed split on the edge. When researching the First National Gold bank of San Francisco, the Track & Price census indicates 481 serial numbers reported. Those are mostly $5 notes yet there are nearly fifty $20 and only a couple seem to be possibly near or equal to this example. Gold banknotes have been tracked for more than half a century that I know of and when they looked at a GBN's they would be fickle with their grade assignments. They liked AG, Good, VG and rarely better. This $20 and the $10 have somewhat different paper from the $5, almost like a different finish by ABNC. I was with Dean when these were acquired from William Anton around 1978 when jewels were distributed. This was always a favorite of his.

Here we have the earliest known note from the extremely rare AETNA NB. This low early charter came from the Oat Bin Hoard when I was still a teen. T&P says there are 21 notes reported. This note is well circulated with many pinholes and other minor issues of it's 19th century existence and being part of a hoard. An amazing rarity to have ever survived and now available for the first time in 35 years. This note charter #7777 is in evenly circulated condition and it retains clear pen signatures of Edwin Sterne and John K. Pray. My old Kelly book I just looked at says it closed before it opened in (6/9/1905 - 5/1/1905). Oops, minor mistake, There were seven NB's in Albany in an obviously booming economy after the turn of the century. Only 1880 sheets were printed and they were all red seals. Minor pinholes. It is difficult to imagine there are 301 large notes reported with the first title from Honolulu, but only seven are $10 BB's and only one appears higher grade. I might question this not being a "30" but I'm not sure it matters for value and it's appearance shows the quality. I found one $10 offered in 2018 but it is a tough type. Cool radar serial number #4994 and signatures of W. G. Cooper and Cecil "Kikila" Brown.

This note last appeared in LFK's North Dakota Collection in 2013 where we stated: "This gorgeous $10 has the appearance of an AU, not a VF and that's because of the color and paper quality. This was one of Amon Carter's favorite North Dakota notes and it was acquired when I sold his National Bank Notes from his estate. Stamped signatures of E.E. More, President and Smith Griffen More, Cashier. Buffalo is located in Cass County in the Fargo metro area. The population was 188 at the 2010 census. Buffalo was founded in 1872 as a Northern Pacific Railroad station named Third Siding and became New Buffalo about 1875. Postmaster Charles A. Wilder shortened the name to Buffalo in 1883. The village incorporated April 8, 1883 and the population peaked at 410 in 1890. The rural fire department of Buffalo was organized in 1958. At that time a 1956 fire truck was purchased. It was the first rural fire protected district in North Dakota." Eight large notes reported on T&P.

They just don't get better than this if you are building a collection to include all of the different entities used for our territories, islands and districts as they are some of the finest notes. Records indicate a VF 25 repairs sold at HA for $150k in 2024 and the only blue seal a year earlier for $144k also at HA. I have not handled a P.R. since 1997 in the Irish Collection. I expect the note will create plenty of interest as Dean acquired it around 1972 from William Anton Jr. As I recall he or his father collected Puerto Rico and this was the one duplicate from his type set $10-$20-$50-$100 sold to a prominent collector decades later. A lovely but lower end VF with the always important officer pen signatures of Wm. B. Hamilton and Andres Crosas. It appears this may have been cut a bit off, but it is a winner.

This charter was extremely prolific with 172 large note notes reported with eight $50 red seals and two $100 red seals. It appears there are three UNC's reported and the others are likely close to this. Stack's sold a 66 for $90k in 2020, likely the finest for the type and none have sold publicly since. My guess is that the signatures of Andrew Richard Matteson & Robert Ives Gammell are probably printed. Acquired from LFK along the way. PMG notes minor repairs.

Fr. 470 $5 1882BB
Ellensburgh, NB, 3867
There are only three notes reported from this bank in Kittitas County that had two titles and this is the first time I find an offering of any Ellensburgh Territorial notes. This bank was chartered on April 14, 1888 and went into receivership July 18, 1896. This bank issued only 825 sheets of $5 BB Territorials. A somewhat uneven top border and signed by the VP and Cashier.

These are nice non-consecutive UNC's and they have recently realized $1,500, $1,440 and $1,200. We offer five notes with a seldom seen original band that is still with these notes even though the balance has been dispersed for decades. Slight paperclip rust on one note. A rare find these days.

I know this note should be in T&P but it is not. There are ten or so high grade red seals on this location, but there are very few from the rest of the state. This was acquired from LFK as lot #1273 around 1990 where it brought $2200. Lovely stamped signatures of E. B. Deison and Virgil Lee Highland.
