We generally do not offer pieces in this condition unless there is good reason; there is good reason to offer this note. Four dragons holding obverse and reverse of silver dragon dollar/back orange. Various signs of circulation, including pieces missing, tape across several areas on back, and a couple thins. 93? 100 Pesos 1960
Unlike the available 100 Pesos from 1959, this rare 1960 date bears the signature of the famous revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara de la Serna as President of the National Bank of Cuba. Not listed as an issued note with this date in the Standard Catalog; printer is ABNC. This type with this date was sent after the triumph of the revolution; by 1961, an entirely new series had been produced so it is extremely likely this date was never released. PMG terms this "Ch. 34a 500 Mils 1.3.1957
All dates for this type are challenging to find in UNC, with the 1957 being the most difficult. As stated by the Alexis Galatariotis' research report, from the total of 750,000 notes printed with a range of prefix A8-A10 there is enough evidence to support that this issue was not completely released. To be more precise, a large amount of the last prefix was kept in the Treasury and was destroyed during the 1960s. PCGS terms this "Abt. New 53 PPQ"; with this type, PPQ is particularly significant.

21 5 Dollars = 5 Piastres 19.7.1893
Exquisite, dynamic, vibrant; select your adjective. The Kolsky-Muszynski Plate Note and among the greatest rarities of the entire French colonial series; exceptional not only from being from the original issue of 1875 without the later decrees but also that the Chinese inscription on the back clearly denotes this issue was legal only in the original central provinces of what became, with French expansion, French Indochina. Of this first 5 Dollars-5 Piastres issue, only two issued examples are presently recorded including this piece; the other note is only approximately Good. Another gauge of rarity is that a recent purchase ad for early Haiphong notes from this era range up to $275,000. We believe on auction date this piece will bring spirited activity and possibly a record for any French Indochina note. PMG terms this "Ch. VF 35 cancelled, pinholes"; significantly better than the only other example (VG 10) on the population report. Spectacular in every respect; a certain centerpiece for any collection.

S102r 2 Pesos ND (1824-29)

The Malvinas has been a disputed area for centuries; it was first "discovered" in 1592. In much later years, in 1982 the Malvinas were prominently in the news because Argentine forces invaded and attempted to reclaim this area as theirs; later that year, those forces surrendered to the British. PMG terms this "Ch. XF 45 NET missing corner, rust"; the only graded note for the ENTIRE COUNTRY! Completely unpriced in any condition in the Standard Catalog. Incredible opportunity, particularly pertinent for "one per country" enthusiasts.

Lot #45308 - World Paper Money > Philippines - ($ 45,000.00 - $ 65,000.00)
124a 500 Pesos ND (1949)
Highest denomination of series; Legazpi. This note is an anomaly, a mystery, an enigma; you select the adjective! Shortly after the auction started, two top experts contacted me within a few hours of each other contending this piece has the later Guevara signature because the high serial number #58673 far exceeds the officially recorded number made of 20,000 for the 500 Pesos denomination, with and without the CENTRAL BANK overprint. Further, the two pieces for the CENTRAL BANK overprint currently known to exist are below serial number 20,000. After multiple examinations, this note clearly has the Hernandez signature at right. So, it is anyone's guess as to why this note with a much higher serial number that defies the official records has the earlier signature variety. PMG terms this "Ch. VF 35"; the higher of the only two on the population report. An incredible opportunity.
Grade: Ch. VF 35    Bank Name: Philippines VICTORY Series No. 66

Fraudulent issue made under authority of Alves dos Reis. Books have been written about this incredible story involving Reis. Most were withdrawn when this incredible scheme was discovered through duplicate serial numbers. These events involving this single type rapidly accelerated the downfall of Waterlow & Sons. A true "story note" and on many want lists! PMG terms this "UNC 60 NET repaired"; far better than most show when they come at all.

S870Aa 5000 Rubles 1.1.1920
Five percent Treasury Note payable in 1921. Double headed eagle/wavy line back design as underprint. Extremely rare American Bank Note Company type; without imprint. During the Russian Civil War, the Kolchak government's Minister of Finance ordered 200,000 of these notes from ABNC on October 15, 1919. These completed pieces were reportedly sent in November and were to have reached Vladivostok in late December. As heavy factional fighting was occurring, it is speculated that the entire printing was lost or destroyed. Kolchak resigned on January 4, 1920. The notes were never issued; to find an example with a full serial number is truly extraordinary. According to one specialist Russian cataloger, only two notes are known; while more than this exist, it is very likely fewer than five examples. We sold the only other issued piece I have ever seen, VG/Fine with a couple small holes and few small spots on back, at PCDA 2009; it hammered for $13,000. The present example has one light fold at center and minor handling at lower right margin. Completely unpriced in the Standard Catalog. A lifetime opportunity to acquire a highly sought note in superb condition that by all rights should not exist!

2E? 1000 Dollars ND (ca. 1914)
SPECIMEN perforated CANCELLED in GREEN; without serial number, signatures, and date. The Standard Catalog lists this type in black as uniface proofs; the illustrations in that source are of front and back proofs with hand artwork dated August 29, '13 (1913) at top right corners. This piece is a completely finished, double sided specimen with front and back together as an issued note would be released. Helmeted woman's head and royal arms/superb back design with cherubs supporting seal. Issued by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago just prior to WWI for reasons unknown. In Trinidad (as in Canada prior to the opening of the central bank of Canada, i.e. the Bank of Canada in 1935), the issuance of most notes was left to the banks. Thus, the Royal Bank of Canada, the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and the Colonial Bank issued notes in denominations of $5, $20, and $100. To protect those who had little wealth in the event of a bank failure, the government forbade the issuance of notes in denominations of less than $5; thus, Trinidad & Tobago issued notes for $1 and $2. And, as in Canada, denominations higher than $100 were also the prerogative of the government. Thus, Trinidad & Tobago chose to issue a $1000 in 1914. Under 'Estimated Amount of Paper Money in Circulation, Colonial Government': "On February 1st, 1906, the Government commenced issuing $1 and $2 notes. On June 12th, 1914, the first issue of $1000 notes was made. The total value of such notes in circulation at the end of the financial year was $636,960, of which $102,000 consist of $1000 notes." PMG terms this "AU 50". A masterpiece in every respect, large size and a superb design; an exceptional opportunity.
