There is a tape repair on the lower right of the back and a pin hole below (A)R(K). The signer, O(liver) Basham served as Arkansas Treasurer from February 1861 to April 1864. He then rode as a lieutenant colonel with the 7th Arkansas Cavalry Regiment. He was killed at the Battle of Pilot Knob (Fort Davidson) on September 27, 1864. Criswell Cr. 54.

The Cincinnati & Whitewater Canal Co. was chartered in 1837 to build a canal from Hagerstown, IN to the Ohio River. The canal was 76 miles long and used tunnels and aqueducts to complete its course. Part of the canal ran through William Henry Harrison's North Bend farm. Harrison later became the ninth President of the United States. When he died in 1841, he was buried on a hill just above the North Bend entrance to the tunnel. This note has nice paper body but has a couple of stains in the bottom center.
