This note is listed in Track & Price as a '63' but PCGS has graded it '58' which makes this likely the fourth or fifth best known of the 78 mule stars listed. A lovely example that looks like a Ch. UNC and, not surprisingly, it was once graded that way. Elliott-White signatures on this mule.

Lot #2012 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 88* $5 1907 # *931218B
It appears there is a run of four consecutive notes that go with this one and the other three appear to be as nice or even a bit better. There are 55 star serial numbers recorded for the Teehee-Burke signature combination and other than these four there may only be a single other one close to as nice; after that they drop to the '50' range. An important, high quality, fresh and original Pioneer family $5 star. Last year a '65 EPQ' PMG realized $9,400.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ

Lot #2015 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)

Excellent originality and paper quality and is infinitely desirable as such.

Fr. 279* $5 1899 # *1049019B
Quality is a tough commodity on any of the 18 star serial numbers recorded with this PCGS XF 45 PPQ at the top of the pile. This Elliott-Burke signature combination is very nice with the look of an UNC but there are at least two folds. The note realized $7,475 in September 2011. Lot #2050 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 281* $5 1899 # *1323302B
I am very surprised that there are only 12 star serial numbers recorded with the Speelman-White signature combination. This note is a pleasing VF 30 and I'm shocked this is the finest known, with all the rest from VF 25 to Terrible. This example is quite nice and well centered.

Lot #2051 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 7,500.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 282* $5 1923 # *2961D
This, the Porthole, is a one series type and this is the third lowest serial number (*2961D). Speelman-White are the Treasury officers and there are a number of the 46 star serial numbers recorded that are graded various levels of UNC. This is a lovely note with excellent centering and I must say I have yet to see a fold or bend, but it is slabbed. This note sold in 2005 as a CGA 65.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #2052 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 40,000.00 - $ 80,000.00)
Fr. 303* $10 1908 # *9682B
This note is $10 Silver Certificate with the Vernon-McClung signature combination and was not believed to exist by Doug Murray when it appeared in 1990. It was assumed that Vernon-McClung notes delivered in 1910 had been pre-star large size but there were 592,000 as part of a 1914 delivery, an entirely different matter, and Treasury records concurred. Based on the serial #*9682B it indicates that there were actually 12,000 printed, a surprising number to Doug of about double what might have been expected. This note is definitely unique as I can tell and I expect serious interest among collectors. These days a grade of Fine might fit better but it does have a tiny split. Fr. 321* $20 1891 # *4232B
This is a lovely, high quality example of a Daniel Manning 1891 Silver Certificate star that's been graded XF 45. It's fresh and well centered with a couple of folds. This piece was sold as an AU by both Heritage and myself in 2001 and 1998 respectively. The census now shows six star serial numbers recorded but the next best grade is a '25' according to the Track & Price census. This type was last offered in 2001 and that's a long wait between appearances. Treasury signatures of Parker-Burke.

Grade: PCGS XF 40 PPQ
Lot #2231 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 974* $20 1914BS Philadelphia #C135961*

Lot #2232 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 975* $20 1914BS Philadelphia #C169485*
This White-Mellon 'A' signature combination has 16 star serial numbers recorded. This beauty looks like a Gem with three folds along with amazing centering and originality. This is by far the best as there are only three VFs.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 PPQ
Lot #2233 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 7,500.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 976* $20 1914BS Cleveland #D28797*
Not only is this Burke-McAdoo note the finest known, it's the only example ever publicly offered, although there is a VF and a Fine in the listing. This note realized $7,475 in November 2006. It has been graded XF 40 which seems harsh to me but I'm viewing it through the holder. There are only three star serial numbers recorded on this signature combination.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #2234 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 977* $20 1914BS Cleveland #D55944*
This note is new to the Track & Price census, which is now four, and is the best by a grade; VF 25 vs. VF 20. This Burke-Glass series has strong sales records.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2235 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 978* $20 1914BS Cleveland #D199304*
This lovely Ch. Abt. New 55 PPQ is the best of the 18 star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-Houston issue. Next is a VF and it goes downward from there. Quality is important and excessively rare as you can tell from the quality of most $20s.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55 PPQ
Lot #2236 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 7,000.00)
Fr. 979a* $20 1914BS Cleveland #D209544*
There are 18 star serial numbers recorded with this White-Mellon 'A' signature combination. This Cleveland $20 has excellent quality, color, centering and originality. It's also tied with another as runner-up to the best listed. None of the others have been certified.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #2237 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 980* $20 1914BS Richmond #E10483*
This note is a new addition to the Burke-McAdoo star census and with only two star notes reported it's a rare opportunity to acquire this evenly circulated Fine note that is problem free.
Grade: PCGS Fine 12
Lot #2238 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 4,000.00)
Fr. 982* $20 1914BS Richmond #E56870*
There are 10 star serial numbers recorded with this Burke-Houston signature combination. This note is the highest graded but it has several tiny flaws as mentioned. PCGS notes: small edge tears at top right of center.
Grade: PCGS VF 30 Apparent
Lot #2239 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 983a* $20 1914BS Richmond #E122160*
There are five star serial numbers recorded with the White-Mellon 'A' signatures and this is the best by far; next in line is a Fine 15 or Fine 12. Excellent centering and decent color. The note was acquired in 2006 at $2,420 through CAA.
Grade: PCGS VF 35
Lot #2240 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 9,000.00)
Fr. 984* $20 1914BS Atlanta #F75850*
This Burke-McAdoo signature combination shows 17 star serial numbers recorded. This note is the finest known and likely the only UNC Atlanta $20 star you will ever see. Even an XF 40 realized $2,860 in 2013.
Grade: PCGS New 61
Lot #2241 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 986* $20 1914BS Atlanta #F75634*
There are only six star serial numbers recorded with this Burke-Houston signature combination. This note was graded Fine 15 in 2005 and realized $3,737. It looks better but others are graded similarly.
Grade: PVGS VF 20
Lot #2242 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 989* $20 1914BS Chicago #G84051*
This Burke-Glass signature combination shows only six star serial numbers recorded. Here is a jewel, or should I say a STAR of a note that is a lovely, fresh, well centered '64 PPQ' when the next best may only be XF or less. These very few UNC $20 stars should create exciting demand for the rarity. The last UNC offered was in 1993!!
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #2243 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 990* $20 1914BS Chicago #G251649*
As a '53 PPQ' this note is the finest known of the 34 star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-Houston variety. After this the choices drop to one XF, more VFs and lower. Great color and nice appearance on this example.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53 PPQ
Lot #2244 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 10,000.00)
Fr. 991a* $20 1914BS Chicago #G306843*
There are 15 star serial numbers recorded with this White-Mellon 'A' signature combination. This is a nice fresh UNC but the two tiny spots on the back influence its grade. This well centered UNC is followed with nothing better than a VF 30.
Grade: PCGS New 61
Lot #2245 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 992* $20 1914BS St. Louis #H25854*
This note is the highest graded of the 10 star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-McAdoo variety being just five points above the next example. The great color and centering makes it nice.
Grade: PCGS XF 45
Lot #2246 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 993* $20 1914BS St. Louis #H57650*
This is the only known star note on this rare St. Louis FRN with the Burke-Glass signatures. It's a much tougher issue and no others have been reported. A pleasing VF 25 with good color and centering.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2247 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 7,500.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 994* $20 1914BS St. Louis #H87779*
This is among the best of all 19 star serial numbers recorded with the Burke-Houston signatures and except for a PMG 58, consecutive to this note, all others drop to XF 40 or less. The centering is appropriate for the grade and the color and paper quality are excellent. Very few districts even have this one UNC. Expect serious demand.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #2248 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 996* $20 1914BS Minneapolis #I6190*

Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2249 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 7,000.00)
Fr. 998* $20 1914BS Minneapolis #I28674*
This Burke-Houston signature combination has just six star serial numbers recorded. This is one of two notes listed as XF 40 but the only graded is PCGS XF 40 PPQ. A fresh, well centered Minneapolis star.
Grade: PCGS XF 40 PPQ
Lot #2250 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1002* $20 1914BS Kansas City #J29775*
This is the second best of the 12 star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-Houston variety, but just by a little bit. All of the prior sales records are for Fine or less notes. There is a better AU shown on PCGS.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2251 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 1004* $20 1914BS Dallas #K42639*
There are 14 star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-McAdoo signature combination. This example is the finest known by just a grade. The note has great centering and an outstanding appearance.
Grade: PCGS XF 45
Lot #2252 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1008* $20 1914BS San Francisco #L56896*
Only three star serial numbers are recorded on this Burke-McAdoo variety. This evenly circulated and problem free note is the best of those reported.
Grade: PCGS Fine 15
Lot #2253 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 7,500.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 1009* $20 1914BS San Francisco #L86858*
This note is the best by far of the two known stars reported on this Burke-Glass signature combination. The notes are this VF 30 vs. a VG 10. A real rarity that had the lower grade bring $3,105 in 2005. A nicely centered example with good color.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2254 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1010* $20 1914BS San Francisco #L138406*
There are eight star notes reported on this Burke-Houston signature combination. This is a pleasing note that is the best graded but there are two others that have not been certified yet.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2255 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 1011a* $20 1914BS San Francisco #L251037*
This is the finest known of the 16 star notes reported on this White-Mellon 'A' variety. A beautiful, original and fresh UNC that was earlier graded PMG 65 EPQ. I assume the margins didn't quite meet the PCGS '65' grade. The fact is there is only one other UNC listed and it's not certified.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ
Lot #2256 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1011b* $20 1914BS San Francisco #L269270*
This note is really a rarity in my opinion because not only is it a White-Mellon 'b' variety but as a series the 'b' series stars rarely ever appear in any denomination.
Grade: PCGS Fine 15
Lot #2257 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1030* $50 1914BS New York #B1398*
This is the best of the four star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-Houston signature combination and it's a problem free VF 25. This note is well centered and with good color. It realized $14,000 in 2012.
Grade: PMG VF 25
Lot #2258 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1034* $50 1914BS Philadelphia #C2819*
This is one of only two star serial numbers recorded for this Burke-Houston variety. The only appearance of the other note was in 1992 and it was XF 40. Here's a problem free, evenly circulated VF that's well centered.
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #2259 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1035* $50 1914BS Philadelphia #C4659*
There are only two star serial numbers recorded on this White-Mellon signature combination. This is a very nice looking VF 25 with great centering, excellent color and overall appearance. There are so few $50s available with only 33 on all districts and signatures.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2260 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1038* $50 1914BS Cleveland #D2896*
This evenly circulated and problem free note is the only $50 star recorded. It was recently sold at $30,550 in 2013. Who knows if another will ever appear?
Grade: PMG Ch. Fine 15
Lot #2261 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1039* $50 1914BS Cleveland #D15954*
This is the most common of all 1914 $50 FRN stars and of course this is the only UNC recorded. This beauty is graded New 62 but it's well centered, well embossed and with excellent color. Regardless, this is the finest graded $50 FRN star known.
Grade: PCGS New 62
Lot #2262 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1042* $50 1914BS Richmond #E195*
This note is the best of three stars recorded with the Burke-Houston signature combination. It's a very nice, evenly circulated and well centered star.
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #2263 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 17,500.00 - $ 35,000.00)
Fr. 1049* $50 1914BS Chicago #G309*
This is a nice, evenly circulated VF 20 Chicago star and it's the only example known to date. This is a "one of series" note!
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #2264 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1050* $50 1914BS Chicago #G2401*
This Burke-Houston signature combination shows just three star serial numbers recorded. This is a sharp, evenly circulated, well centered Chicago $50 star. There are two others, one is XF 40 and the other is Fine Apparent. This note was last offered in 1997 at $2,860. Those were the days!
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2265 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1053* $50 1914BS St. Louis #H22*
Great quality highlights this unique 'one of a series' note with the low serial #H22. The centering and color are excellent. Remember it's a Burke-Glass signature combination as well.
Grade: PCGS VF 30 PPQ
Lot #2266 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1068* $50 1914BS San Francisco #L528*
One star is recorded on this Burke-McAdoo variety. This note first appeared at a public sale in 2003 and brought a strong $8,050. Tonight I expect that this evenly circulated Fine 12 will do significantly better.
Grade: PCGS Fine 12
Lot #2267 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1070* $50 1914BS San Francisco #L2001*
This only known star note on this Burke-Houston variety is graded XF 45 Apparent with minor restoration at top and bottom center but obviously it was professionally done. The note must have been restored after the 2001 Smythe sale where it realized $5,250 some 14 years ago.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 Apparent
Lot #2268 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1088* $100 1914BS New York #B241*
This is the only example of a $100 FRN 1914 star note with this Burke-McAdoo signature combination. The note is pleasing, problem free, evenly circulated and well centered. It appeared in 2005 and realized $12,650 - a decade ago.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2269 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1090* $100 1914BS New York #B3539*
This note is the best of three known stars with the Burke-Houston signatures. In 1996 it was graded AU when offered by R.M. Smythe and I understand that grade. It sure is conservatively graded now at XF 45 PPQ. A fantastic quality note.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 PPQ
Lot #2270 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1098* $100 1914BS Cleveland #D6*
This note is the better of only two $100 Blue Seal stars on Cleveland. A pleasing VF 30 that is problem free and with an excellent overall appearance. The serial #D6* is nearly as low as you are likely to encounter. Only 4,000 were printed of each star $100.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2271 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1100* $100 1914BS Richmond #E2*
This is the sole surviving example of a $100 Richmond 1914 star with the Burke-McAdoo signatures and it's also the second printed #E2*. The condition is just note nice but when offered a decade ago it realized $13,800. Likely a good starting point today. If I owned this I would restore it to better fit my collection, but that choice is the buyers'.
Grade: PCGS Good 4
Lot #2272 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 22,500.00 - $ 45,000.00)
Fr. 1104* $100 1914BS Atlanta #F107*
This is a very nice, high quality VF 30 that has excellent paper quality, slight circulation and excellent margins. The overall appearance is quite stunning. The last one sold at Stack's in 1992.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2273 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 17,500.00 - $ 35,000.00)
Fr. 1108* $100 1914BS Chicago #G253*
This is the best of the two known Chicago $100 FRN stars and it's quite a nice note to be graded VF 20. The paper has excellent body, the margins are good and it's completely problem free. When last offered in 2003 this note realized $6,670. Why not have the best?
Grade: PCGS VF 20
Lot #2274 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1120* $100 1914BS Kansas City #J800*
There are four star serial numbers recorded on this Burke-McAdoo signature combination. This is the finest available and it's a pleasing VF 25 with excellent color and body, bold margins, a great look and overall appearance. The note was last offered in January 2012 at $10,925. Somewhere out there is an UNC Kansas City $100 star with serial #J9*. I don't currently know where but it could easily be in the Federal Reserve Bank.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2275 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1124* $100 1914BS Dallas #K97*
This is an excellent example of a sole survivor and imagine how hard Mr. Phil must have searched through the Dallas Federal Reserve to acquire examples for Amon Carter, Tom Bain or himself. There was quite an interest in Dallas material as early as the 1950s. I think this is a pleasing, evenly circulated note with excellent color and body but there is a very minor light stain in the left end margin.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2276 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 22,500.00 - $ 45,000.00)
Fr. 1128* $100 1914BS San Francisco #L51*
This note has pretty even wear and good color for the grade and circulation. This note last appeared in 2005 and realized $18,400 in spirited bidding. The opportunity for any single collection to amass such rarities is a tremendous feat.
Grade: PCGS Fine 12
Lot #2277 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 4,500.00 - $ 9,000.00)
Fr. 1168* $10 1907 # *101378B
This is the first offering of this Vernon-McClung signature combination star in more than 20 years and that note is still unavailable today. This example is well used, evenly circulated and with good centering. While it has a myriad of pinholes at the left it's a decent note.
Grade: PCGS VG 10
Lot #2278 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 7,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 1169* $10 1907 # *201522B
This note appears to be tied for second best of the five star serial numbers recorded with the Napier-McClung signatures as the top note has been off the market since 1993. The note came from CAA in 1995 supposedly as an XF but not when Len saw it. Grade was changed to VF 30 which seemed enough to him; he is conservative on lower grades. The other VF 30 realized $8,050 in 2009.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2279 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 8,000.00 - $ 15,000.00)
Fr. 1171* $10 1907 # *330144B
Third of seven star notes recorded on this Parker-Burke signature combination. This is a pleasing, well centered VF 25 with excellent color and even circulation. The census includes an UNC example but with no information at all. In the fall of 2012 we sold a VF 30 PPQ for $8,625 and that note received much interest.
Grade: PCGS VF 25
Lot #2280 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1172* $10 1907 # *456302B
This is the second finest known of the 16 stars reported with the Teehee-Burke signatures. There is a note listed as a '65' by CAA in 2001 and it's consecutive to this note, graded Ch. Abt. New 55. In 2012 we sold a '45' at $6,325 so these are very scarce and desirable. This note has excellent quality and average centering along with excellent paper quality and color.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
Lot #2281 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 1173* $10 1922 # *1251632D
This Speelman-White signature combination shows 259 star serial numbers recorded. That's quite a stunning number after writing up 'one of a kinds' and 'finest known' again and again. This note looks beautiful, fresh and original but the top margin must hold the grade down. There are only three uncertified stars graded higher than this note. Higher quality stars have just never been available often.
Grade: PCGS New 61 PPQ
Lot #2282 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 1173a* $10 1922 Mule # *13202D
This note has the small serial number like the 1907 Series and is a mule as well. In 2013 this note realized $14,950 in strong activity and it's the best in the Track & Price census but there is also one graded higher at '53 PPQ'. This note has excellent quality and even circulation to go along with its beautiful color. There are 13 star serial numbers recorded on this Speelman-White variety.
Grade: PCGS VF 30 PPQ
Lot #2283 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 1182* $20 1906 # *15038B
This is an exceptional, early rarity of the star note era and it's the better of the two examples recorded; the other is a Fine 12 Apparent. The note was acquired by its previous owner in 1999 at a cost of $9,900 at R.M. Smythe. A problem free Fine 15 with the Vernon-McClung signatures.
Grade: PCGS Fine 15 PPQ
Lot #2284 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1183* $20 1906 # *70560B
There are more examples of stars in these signatures than all other 1906 Gold Certificate stars put together. The census indicates five of about the same grade, XF 40, but this is the only slabbed note and it's PPQ. Great color, centering and minor circulation. We sold this in 2011 at $9,520.
Grade: PCGS XF 40 PPQ
Lot #2285 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 6,000.00 - $ 9,000.00)
Fr. 1185* $20 1906 # *149152B
This note seems to be the finest known example of the 10 star serial numbers recorded with the Parker-Burke signatures but there are two others not far behind. This note has good color and centering along with being problem free.

Lot #2286 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 12,500.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 1186* $20 1906 # *165335B
There are 11 star serial numbers recorded for this Teehee-Burke signature combination. This is a lovely note that seems even more beautiful than the grade indicates as it is so fresh and original with excellent centering and color. The note was acquired in 2008 at $12,075.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 PPQ
Lot #2287 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1187* $20 1922 # *308785D
There are quite a few 1922 Gold Certificate stars to pick from with nine graded '63' or '64', but none higher. This note is PMG 63 EPQ and it's definitely fresh, original and beautiful but the bottom margin could be broader. This note was acquired in 2013 at $11,750 but one graded '64 PPQ' was sold by us at $7,475.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 63 EPQ
Lot #2288 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 12,500.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 1200* $50 1922 Mule # *4451B
This is a very high quality $50 mule star that has exceptional color and centering but is labeled 'apparent' because of a tiny split that has a repair at the top margin. There has not been any offering since 2003 when I sold a '55' at $10,925. Non-mule stars in '30' and '35' have brought $12,075 and $10,925 in 2009 and 2011 respectively. PCGS notes: small edge repair at top center. There are only four star serial numbers reported on this Speelman-White signature combination.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 Apparent
Lot #2289 - Large Size Type Notes > Gold Certificates - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 1215* $100 1922 # *18566B
The census indicates there is a star $100 Gold Certificate in CU but I can't find a sales record. This is a gorgeous PMG 40 EPQ. An ex: Amon Carter star that is fresh, original and looks even higher quality than its grade. Quality and rarity are a great combination and only six known examples appear to be '30' or better. This note sold in January 2014 at $17,625.
Grade: PMG XF 40 EPQ
Lot #2300 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 1,500.00)
Fr. 16 $1 1862
A very pretty example of this early Legal Tender type that has some edge repairs and redrawn design at a couple corners as well as rust stains. Superbly margined and with exceptional color, this note has a center fold and some corner handling. A typical AU sells in the neighborhood of $1,500-$1,750 and we have recently seen apparent graded XF/AU notes hit the $1,000 mark.

Lot #2333 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 8,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
Fr. 122 $10 1901
Gem Buffaloes are beautiful notes and checking Track & Price census it shows only three '67s' graded by PMG or PCGS, along with nine '66s' and sixteen '65 PPQ or EPQs'. To me that seems surprisingly low but that's why people like them. They are beautiful and very scarce. This note has exceptional originality, paper quality, color and centering - everything you want in a Gem Buffalo.
Grade: PCGS 65 PPQ

A gorgeous example of this amazing Gem Jackson $10 that has amazing color, originality and centering. The colors are so fresh they want to jump off the paper. This type had only 696,000 notes issued and 4,000 stars for an issue of $7,000,000 total. Gem centering and amazing originality are everything you could ask for in a Gem 66. Only five examples are shown as graded '67'. From the Cleveland Collection.

This is a fresh, original Poker Chip note from the last pack issued as the series went to stars at 696,000. This note came from a Hickman-Oakes sale, Lot 206 at $403. Since then I believe the entire pack was saved. The quality of this example is completely fresh and beautiful.

Lot #2339 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 15,000.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 126b $20 1863
We are lucky that bankers and collectors have always seemed reluctant to use paper money when it came out. There are 160 serial numbers recorded but many have tiny edge splits. This note is a real beauty and conservatively graded Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ. The last '65 PPQ' realized $35,250 in January 2014.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #2340 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 4,000.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 136 $20 1880
A beautiful, fresh and well centered Gem New 65 PPQ. There are 146 serial numbers recorded of this type. This note, a large red seal with blue serial numbers, is totally original with exceptional quality. There are a handful of either '66' or '67' and a few other '65' but they are not often offered. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #2341 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 75,000.00 - $ 150,000.00)
Fr. 150 $50 1863
This is one of the rarest of all issues of $100 or less. The entire type consists of both 1862 Series notes, of which there are 27 serial numbers recorded, and the new obligation notes, with only 18 examples reported. The total of 45 examples may include some questionable listings. This note is listed on the census but it's clearly listed incorrectly as numbers have been expanded. Now a Fr. 150b New Series 1 with the Act of March 3, 1863 and June 1857 patent date at the left. At least six of the Fr. 150s listed are now Fr. 150b. Yet this note will be the first to have the newest designation. This note is clearly the seventh best as the top six are clearly better and the lower clearly not as nice. The grade of VF 25 Apparent for minor restoration seems fair as this paper was always fragile and splits or cracks can never be far away. In all varieties there are only two other examples that offer a similar quality and they have been unavailable to the market for decades. The last XF 40 brought $182,125 in 2013. I believe the estimate provides a solid range of value for this pleasing circ example with a couple of splits that were closed to avoid further issues. PCGS notes: minor restoration. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 25 Apparent
Lot #2342 - Large Size Type Notes > Legal Tender - ($ 300,000.00 - $ 500,000.00)
Fr. 167a $100 1863
The Spread Eagle stands at the top of the iconic issues of US Paper Money. This image was chosen not as an individual but as the spirit of a nation as the eagle watches over it. This is not to be confused with the Black Eagle watching over the government. When I began working for Fred Sweeney in 1970 was when I became aware of the Spread Eagle because Wm. P. Donlon had chosen that image to highlight his reference on large size US Paper Money, and unless my memory has failed me, he chose it for his auction of a portion of his collection. That is why it's always been the Spread Eagle for me. This note appeared as the cover lot for my 1992 Memphis catalog and it had formerly been the property of William Anton, Sr. This beautiful example has been graded Ch. New 63 by PCGS which is exactly the same as I did back in 1992. The census for the entire issue of Spread Eagle $100s is only 50. Which includes Fr. 165 with finest recorded of VF 25 and 15 reported; Fr. 165a has 11 serial numbers in the census with the finest a VF 25. There are no Fr. 166s recorded. Fr. 167 has two known, the finest in XF. Fr. 167a shows 22 serial numbers recorded, there is one 65 EPQ and two Ch. New 63. The Fr. 167b has only two known with the finest being a VF 25. The point is, with 50 known for the type and 3 graded UNC, along with 3 to 5 more that are higher grade the opportunities are few and far between for such rarity. There was a Fr. 167a in PCGS 63 that realized $305,500 in January 2013. We expect the desirability of the Eagle could have it soaring among the bidders. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63

Lot #2369 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 8,500.00)
Fr. 243 $2 1886
Screaming Windom demonstrating incredible embossing, to a depth rarely encountered. This is one of only nine uncirculated notes to garner the coveted PPQ/EPQ designation from either service. Only a narrow upper margin, well away from the design, limits the grade on this monster type note. Worthy of a bid midway in the estimate range.
Grade: PCGS Ch. New 63 PPQ
Lot #2370 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 2,250.00 - $ 3,750.00)

Fr. 248 $2 1896
It's been a long time since I have offered such a gorgeous, high quality $2 Educational in Gem New 66 PPQ. It's hard to believe but I may have to go back to 2007 to find one this nice that I sold. The note came from Wm. P. Donlon, Lot 104, not sure of sale date. The note has it all - beauty, popularity, originality, quality and centering. I mean it has it all.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2373 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 12,500.00 - $ 17,500.00)
Fr. 248 $2 1896
This $2 Educational is gorgeous, fresh and original with bright white paper and amazing centering which frames this important design. I have some difficulty understanding that we had no steam power or electricity until shortly before the late 19th century. A magnificent Gem example.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ

Lot #2383 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 40,000.00 - $ 60,000.00)
Fr. 262 $5 1886
This amazing Silver Dollar Back with the large red seal last appeared in our August 1998 sale where I offered it as a special, high-end Gem, and both the face and back centering deserve that grade. This is from a run of 20 serial numbers of the 82 examples recorded; compared to the 307 examples of the brown seal. This is as beautiful a large Red Seal Silver Dollar Back as you are likely to encounter. Enjoy the gorgeous centering, color and originality. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2384 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 22,500.00 - $ 35,000.00)
Fr. 263 $5 1886
The Track & Price census indicates only seven Gem 65 PPQ or EPQ graded Silver Dollar Backs. Also listed are six '66 EPQ' and three '67 EPQ'. This note was acquired through Jonathon's Coins in Inglewood, California during the late 1970s when I, among others, were finding well centered Gems for their clients.
Grade: PCGS 65 PPQ
Lot #2385 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 266 $5 1891
This is a non-silver dollar back and it's a beauty. The census shows only 98 serial numbers recorded and only 20 are listed as a higher grade. Great color and centering add to the appeal.
Grade: PMG XF 40
Lot #2386 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 24,000.00 - $ 32,000.00)
Fr. 268 $5 1896
A magnificent Gem $5 Educational. This was the highest issued denomination to the Educational set. It features an allegorical group showing Electricity as the dominant force in the world. 'Banned in Boston' because the conservative banker's wives were offended by the bare breasted allegorical figure! This is a wonderful Gem 66 PPQ that would create the final piece to a well matched set. Great color, originality and centering are all part of the prize. An amazing piece of paper money from the most desirable series.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2387 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 22,500.00 - $ 35,000.00)
Fr. 268 $5 1896
In 1897, when the $5 Educational notes were released, the firm of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes was one of the old-time banking companies and they were pillars of the Boston Blueblood society. Mrs. Cabot and Mrs. Forbes were very conservative and when they inspected their first $5 Educational note they ordered their husbands not to allow the notes in their banking and business house. This was due to the naked breast on the figure on the face of the note. Hence the term 'Banned In Boston'. This objection led the government to cancel plans for the $10 Educational note and so abandoning the series. The central vignette shows Electricity presenting Light to the World. Shirlaw did the original design for the $5 Ed and Thomas F. Morris later modified it; he also designed the back. A beautiful Gem that has been graded Gem New 66 PPQ by PCGS. Amazing Gem quality in every way. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2388 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 24,000.00 - $ 32,000.00)
Fr. 269 $5 1896
This is a scarcer Bruce-Roberts signature combination for the $5 Educational and it's about 40% scarcer in known notes. It appears that more lower quality examples were saved, such as Tillman-Morgan signatures as they were available first. This note possesses the quality everyone strives for - Gem New 66 PPQ. A gorgeous, fresh and original note with amazing centering and beautiful color. Just a beauty! There seems to be nineteen '66 PPQ' graded, along with ten graded '67'. The earlier Fr. 268 has one Gem 68 PPQ, five '67s' and thirty-eight '66s'. A wonderful opportunity for the best.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2389 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 275 $5 1899
This is a very nice Chief that has been with the Educational set, Buffaloes and Silver Dollar Back listed here for decades. This note looks to be Gem but it's graded Very Ch. New 64 PPQ.

Lot #2390 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 1,200.00 - $ 1,600.00)

A sharp Porthole graded '64 Net' for an erasure. This must be on the back as the note faces up well.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64 Net
Lot #2394 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 282 $5 1923
This is a pleasing Porthole that is graded Very Ch. New 64 Apparent where they have noted a small repair which appears to be a single, poorly closed pinhole in the lower border. This note has excellent centering, fresh color and a great overall appearance but the graded note here will stop a less astute buyer, a potential mistake.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 Apparent
Lot #2395 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 6,000.00)
Fr. 282 $5 1923

Lot #2396 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,500.00 - $ 4,500.00)
Fr. 282 $5 1923
This is a gorgeous Porthole that has the appearance of a Gem but a corner fold goes into the design, otherwise it's very fresh, well centered and very attractive. A reasonable value for the quality.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58
Lot #2397 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 12,500.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 287 $10 1880
Over the years as you read my descriptions, no doubt you will known my passion for the black back Silver Certificates. This lovely $10 is one of the finest known with only three notes listed in Track & Price as certified better; a PMG 66 EPQ, PMG 64 and PMG 58. Four others may well be in the mix but not yet certified. Graded Ch. Abt. New 55 PPQ seems like a great grade for the buyer as this note is fresh, well centered and with excellent paper quality but two corner tips hold it back from grading higher but not from its beauty status.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55 PPQ
Lot #2398 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 3,000.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 299 $10 1891
Thomas Hendricks notes are very scarce in high grade and this is listed in the census as a '63'. This small red seal has the open back design along with excellent color and centering. This type has long been very desirable. PCGS notes: small repairs. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 50 Apparent
Lot #2399 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 35,000.00 - $ 60,000.00)
Fr. 313 $20 1886 #B11
This is a really rare and desirable Manning note with the ornate back with only 19 serial numbers recorded. This example last appeared in 1998 and the #B11 serial just makes it even more sought after. During the last six years VFs have brought from $43,125 to $25,850 or so. I am very excited to offer this rarity for from the Cleveland Collection. PCGS notes 'restorations' and I can see several tiny minor closed splits, very negligible. The note looks problem free.
Grade: PCGS VF 20 Apparent
Lot #2400 - Large Size Type Notes > Silver Certificates - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 10,000.00)
Fr. 318 $20 1891
A lovely Manning note with the small red seal and the open back design. The centering and originality are all there. This note is absolutely one of the 10 top grades for this signature and seal combination. There are 227 $20 Manning notes from this serial and only one is certified PMG 58 and one equal in PMG 53, then there are five that could be above or below these, but that's pretty special company. Worthy of strong bidding. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53
Lot #2401 - Large Size Type Notes > Treasury Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 40,000.00)
Fr. 347 $1 1890 #A114
Here is a jewel that will no doubt rank near the top of every want list. Why...because collectors love the General series and the ornate backs are just so amazing in design. This note came from Dean Oakes in the early 1970s and it's low serial #A114. When reviewing the Track & Price census there are only two other Fr. 347 graded as high as this note and this is the only '66 PPQ' graded by PCGS. The other examples realized $21,150 in 2011 and $28,750 in 2013. A fresh, well centered brown seal with the low serial #114. This jewel has gorgeous color, bright paper and beautiful inking to enhance the note and there are no finer grades recorded.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ
Lot #2402 - Large Size Type Notes > Treasury Notes - ($ 2,000.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 350 $1 1891
A fresh, lovely and original Gem Stanton with excellent color and originality. An excellent example.
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ
Lot #2403 - Large Size Type Notes > Treasury Notes - ($ 20,000.00 - $ 30,000.00)
Fr. 353 $2 1890
Ornate back Deuces with the large brown seal are exceptionally desirable and at least very scarce, if not rare in top quality. There are only seven certified UNCs shown in Track & Price and this is only the third Ch. AU 58 PPQ. The note was acquired as a Gem from a 1997 CAA sale and I am shocked to find anything at all to keep it from Gem. The last Gem 65 realized nearly $50,000 and as a lovely '58 PPQ' I assume 40% of the Gem - but I can't see any flaws! This beauty will be a near perfect match for the Gem 66 PPQ Ace offered here. Fresh, original paper, beautiful centering and excellent paper quality.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ
Lot #2404 - Large Size Type Notes > Treasury Notes - ($ 1,500.00 - $ 2,500.00)

Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 Apparant
Lot #2470 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)

There are 210 serial numbers recorded and surprisingly many are UNCs as well. This is a nice looking Dallas $20 with excellent color and average centering.
Grade: Ch. CU
Lot #2475 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 6,500.00 - $ 10,000.00)
Fr. 1013a $50 1914RS New York
This is a very nice Red Seal that has two small spots in the lower margin. It was listed in the census as a '40' in 2002. There is just one better recorded but it is not graded, and one of the same grade without the 'apparent'. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 35 Apparent
Lot #2476 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1015a $50 1914RS Cleveland
This certainly appears to be the finest of the $50 Red Seals from the Cleveland Collection. An amazing rarity with only six serial numbers recorded, with the next best liated as a VF 35. There are a VG, Fine and VF but one listing is clearly mis-entered and one has no reported grade. When acquired in 2000 the cost was $8,800 and by 2012 a VF 35 brought $5,750. I expect this beauty will create plenty of excitement among collectors. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 Apparent
Lot #2477 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 12,500.00 - $ 25,000.00)
Fr. 1016a $50 1914RS Richmond
This is still the finest known, even though it was graded AU earlier, an AU was regraded at '35'. A gorgeous, well centered $50 Red Seal from the Cleveland Collection. There is a miniscule split that has been closed on the margin. Just nine serial numbers recorded and none better. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS XF 45 Apparent
Lot #2478 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 1,250.00 - $ 2,500.00)
Fr. 1016b $50 1914RS Richmond
This note is new to the census and it has excellent color and margins. A small expert restoration is visible under light. Probably half of the reported notes are of a higher grade. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 25 Apparent
Lot #2479 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
Fr. 1025 $50 1914BS Boston
The finest known is only Ch. UNC and there are only 59 serial numbers recorded. This is the only PMG UNC but there is a PCGS 63 as well. Acquired from Stanley Morycz.
Grade: PMG Ch. UNC 64
Lot #2480 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 700.00 - $ 1,400.00)
Fr. 1036 $50 1914BS Cleveland
A gorgeous, well centered $50 with exceptional color. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 30
Lot #2481 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 5,000.00 - $ 10,000.00)
Fr. 1037 $50 1914BS Cleveland
There are only 41 serial numbers recorded and one other that is higher grade and called XF. The Cleveland Collection was proud of this and other high quality Cleveland notes.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53
Lot #2482 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 750.00 - $ 1,250.00)
Fr. 1037 $50 1914BS Cleveland
There are just 41 serial numbers recorded on this scarce issue.
Grade: F/VF
Lot #2483 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 1,000.00 - $ 2,000.00)
Fr. 1038 $50 1914BS Cleveland
This note looks better but careful inspection makes XF the correct grade and the highest grade is XF! There are 126 serial numbers recorded. PCGS notes: minor repair on back at right of center. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS XF 40 Apparent
Lot #2484 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 2,500.00 - $ 5,000.00)
Fr. 1039b $50 1914BS Cleveland
This lovely $50 was sold by CAA in 1998 as a '63' but is now a '55', which tells you how pretty it must be. Still third finest known of the 116 serial numbers recorded. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
Lot #2485 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 500.00 - $ 1,000.00)
Fr. 1071 $50 1914BS San Francisco
This new to the census note is just the 45th note of this type reported. None of the folds break the paper and some embossing is still present.
Grade: VF/XF
Lot #2486 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 35,000.00 - $ 70,000.00)
Fr. 1075a $100 1928 A-A
This remains the finest known even though it was graded UNC when sold by CAA in 1998. The point is that this is the best by far and the only other graded example was VG. There were none in the Flynn Collection and nothing has appeared to compare to this beauty. There is a tiny restored split near the right edge; it's minor, but it's there. This bright and well centered example was a proud part of the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53 Apparent
Lot #2487 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1075a $100 1914RS Cleveland
This jewel is either the finest known or the second finest known or tied as it's hard to determine based on very old lot data descriptions and opinions. This note is a lovely XF 40 and one of only seven serial numbers recorded. A rare, bright, fresh and high quality Red Seal example. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS XF 40
Lot #2488 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 25,000.00 - $ 50,000.00)
Fr. 1075b $100 1914RS Cleveland
This is the finest listed in the Track & Price census of 23 serial numbers recorded. After this there are two graded '50' but none of the top seven are certified until this note. It was in 1997 when the note was sold by CAA as an UNC. It is a beautiful example and there will be few opportunities to acquire this rarity. A Fine 15 realized $12,650 in 2008. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS Abt. New 53
Lot #2489 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 10,000.00 - $ 20,000.00)
Fr. 1075b $100 1914RS Cleveland
This note was sold in 1999 as an AU and now it has been graded VF 35 Apparent due to a small edge tear repair. Well maybe there is a repair and maybe there isn't but there is a tiny mark on the back. There are only 23 serial numbers recorded and this note should be the sixth or seventh best. The Rickey Collection only has a VF 25. Definitely appears better than a VF. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS VF 35 Apparent
Lot #2490 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 35,000.00 - $ 70,000.00)
Fr. 1077a $100 1914RS Atlanta
This was the finest known when listed as a Ch. CU in 2001 but now this is graded Ch. AU 55. Whether or not it's the finest is under question as a note reported is listed at '63', but is not certified. The first graded example is a PCGS VF 30 in 2008. This note, from the Cleveland Collection, brought $13,200 in 2001.
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 55
Lot #2491 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 30,000.00 - $ 60,000.00)
Fr. 1078a $100 1914RS Chicago
This note has long been considered the finest known of this Chicago series that has just 11 serial numbers recorded. I sold this note as UNC in 1995 and it was resold as AU by CAA in 2000, now it's XF 45. Still the finest known as the serial #G1 is likely in the Chicago Federal Reserve. The next problem free example is Fine 12 so why not get the best possible. From the Cleveland Collection.
Grade: PCGS XF 45
Lot #2492 - Large Size Type Notes > Federal Reserve Notes - ($ 22,500.00 - $ 45,000.00)
Fr. 1082b $100 1914RS Dallas
This is one of only six serial numbers recorded for this Series B variety on a Red Seal $100 FRN. This note is one of three graded examples and it falls in the middle of those notes. This note was last part of the Tom Flynn Collection sold in 2008 where it realized an unprecedented $57,500. We suggest that this result will be unequaled but this rarity is available for a serious collector. PMG notes: discoloration. From the Cleveland Collection.

Fr. 1133-D $1,000 1918 Cleveland
The Track & Price census indicates there are 14 large size Cleveland $1,000 extant. This note was shown as a '66' from it's offering by CAA in 2000 at over $60,000. Today the jewel is graded 65 PPQ and it's still the finest known. This will be what collectors want most these days - the finest known denomination in the highest grade possible. PCGS has graded only two; a Philadelphia and this Cleveland with none graded higher, not even a San Francisco. This note has amazing paper quality and centering with color that is bold, great and vivid. Every thing a series collector could ask for. I would not be at all surprised to see this crack the top estimate. From the Cleveland Collection.

This is a beautiful and evenly circulated example of the rarest Technicolor $20 Gold Certificate with the Lyons-Roberts signatures. We sold this in our June 1997 sale as AU and it certainly does have the color and beauty of a higher grade. The centerfold has been possibly strengthened causing the 'apparent' designation but it's beautiful and tough. PMG note: minor restoration of small edge splits at top and bottom center. Fr. 1200a $50 1922 Mule
Here is an amazing and newly found small serial number $50 Gold Certificate which I believe is nearly the finest known. The rarity of the small serial number $50s has forced higher prices regularly and no doubt this jewel should create all the elements needed for a heated bidding competition. The note has exceptional quality and I was surprised that with the embossing this note did not get a PPQ. I do miss things sometimes, but this note is lovely and still currently the best. From the Cleveland Collection.
