1861-62 Sutler Check 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Militia
1862. Keller-UNLISTED. Payable to the Samuel Hatch, Sutler of the 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Militia and signed by a soldier of Company E. Most known Sutler checks are for Volunteer Infantry regiments; this is a very rare example of a militia regiment. The 7th Regiment, O.V.M was one of the original six month enlistment units called for by President Lincoln at the beginning of the war. Later, when the soldiers' original enlistment was up, the unit was disbanded or merged into an Infantry Regiment. Quite rare.
