Fr. 2071-G $20 1977 Chicago G-C Printed Tear
Grade: PCGS Very Ch. New 64 PPQ     PCGS
Fred Bart states, 'In reference to the series 1977 $20 Federal Reserve Note, issued by the Chicago district and specifically identified by serial #G97927948C, I have examined the note. The retained obstruction error consists of selvage from the upper margin of the uncut sheet and therefore, consists of currency stock. Amazingly this intervening paper remains firmly attached to the host note. The paper folded between the 2nd (face) and 3rd (over) printing, capturing the black district seal. As even a cursory exam will reveal, the extra paper tore as part of the process creating the misprint. In fact, this error could not have occurred without the split separating one large piece into two manageable fragments. The note grades Choice Crisp Uncirculated and exhibits original paper quality. In my professional opinion, this mistake manifested on this note is unique. I have studied the entire spectrum of United States paper money errors since 1981 without ever encountering anything remotely similar. I intend to include an illustration of this error in a forthcoming edition of my book'. The Emerald Coast Collection.
