Few collectors get the opportunity to acquire any lazy deuce let alone have the chance to acquire just a deuce or a "type set" ace + deuce, or keep the whole sheet together. It's your choice! Selling the $2 first followed by the $1 A, $1 B and the $1 C in order. There are a total of 71 large notes reported, of which 16 are deuces original series and 32 aces. Probably less than five matched pairs in this grade. Lovely fresh and original. I truly expected a higher grade but I accept their thoughts. Excellent pen signatures of J.C. Darby and A.O Miller.

Fr. 397a $5 Original
Salem, First NB, 1659
This is one of the greatest early charters. In June a decade ago I sold the very first discovery note from this location and it realized $80,500 graded VF 20. It was lot 2760 of the June sale described as follows. This story says it all about the Salem and the Winston notes. I believe this is the Holy Grail of North Carolina national bank notes because it was a first charter only bank from a new unique town. "There are three 1902 Blue Seals from very small issuers that remain unknown. I am sure a case could be built for any of these banks. Hamlet- Murphy and Warsaw, as their printings were minuscule. This note bears a plate date of Sept. 1, 1866. Barely a year after the war with the north had ended. That must have been quite a period in North Carolina history". Since then, two others have surfaced and both have been restored as has this note which had extensive wear and the restoration makes it solid!. It's difficult to believe three have shown up during that time.
