This is either the third example reported or the hard to read serial number is indeed hard to read. This bank made 2,012 sheets of $5s and 1,315 sheets of $10s and $20s. In 1910 reports said there was $715 outstanding, and the bank was only in business from 1880 to 1888. This is an evenly circulated note with excellent pen signatures. St. Clair, First NB, 1789
A well used but pleasing lazy deuce and the only one recorded from this exceptionally scarce town. There are 6 large notes reported on this first charter location. No notes had appeared publicly before the Dr. Wallace Lee Collection in 2007 where we stated that this one-bank town received its bank charter in 1871 and the bank only survived until 1886. Just over 10,000 sheets were printed but on these early banks that doesn't mean much. Light signatures of D. Sheldon, President and J.C. Clarke, Cashier on this note that was previously from the DeGood and the Dr. Wallace Lee Collection.
