29A 5 Deutsche Mark 1.7.1963
In the 1960s, the German Central Bank prepared an emergency series (internally designated as "BBk II") in case currency in circulation needed to be replaced quickly (in case of war or another crisis). One series was prepared for West Germany and another for West Berlin; values were 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Mark. According to the German Central Bank, this 5 Mark, from the emergency series prepared for West Berlin, is the only value from either series to surface in the collecting community. Listed in the specialized German "Rosenberg" catalog as #313 and Standard Catalog #29A (erroneously listed as a "Bundeskassenschein"). Fascinating item from the Cold War era.
